Our thoughts on...

Why we started Halcyon Counselling

Our first thoughts when we started Halcyon Counselling leaned toward the practical side of counselling. Recognising that a group of counsellors can offer something more than the lone counsellor working in private practice: The opportunity for peer support, the ability to offer clients a choice of counsellor and the old adage of (emotional) strength in numbers.

However, as we began to discuss and reflect on what we were trying to achieve, it became obvious that we we’re talking about creating something that was more reflective of our shared philosophical views, rather than just those benefits surrounding a shared virtual space.

Halcyon Counselling began to take on a new meaning to its members. It became a conduit by which we could begin to publicise our view of what counselling could and should be. A professional counselling service that seeks to view clients as individuals with personal problems that need to be explored and understood, rather than diagnosing, treating or trying to alter behaviour through theoretical endeavour.

One of our goals at Halcyon Counselling is to demystify what counselling is, to remove any stigma that surrounds the often-misunderstood therapy.

Is it just talking?
Is the counsellor going tell me what’s wrong with me?
Will counselling help me?

These are questions often asked by those who feel they need to talk to someone. On the Halcyon Counselling website, you can access a number of resources that seek to answer these questions. And if you don’t find the answer to your question… please ask us and we will try our best to answer it for you.
